Here in Iceland it is quite special to see the birth of a foal. Many mares just have their foals out in a field and just handle the situation themselves. But this mama was on a field next to the house, so my housemate kept an eye on her all day. He called me as soon as she started and so I got to see the whole birth and the precious moments afterwards as well. It was he first foal for this mare and it was fascinating to see that both mother and foal immediately know what to do.
